OUR STORY
Supporting the Mission and Ministry of the Archbishop of York across the North
The Bishopthorpe Charitable Partners' Trust is an exciting new grant-making charity, established to support the vision, work and mission of the Archbishop of York across the Northern Province of the Church of England.
The trustees are drawn from across the Province. Each brings their local knowledge and considerable experience to bear on how best to support the Archbishop’s ministry with Charitable Partners willing to offer their prayers, talents and financial resources to assist this important work.
Our Purpose
Our Trust is a grant-making charity which exists to serve a clear and vital purpose: to strengthen, sustain and share the Christian faith across the North of England (the provincial area of the Church of England led by the Archbishop of York). Rooted in a deep commitment to the mission of the church, the Trust is one part of support put in place to ensure that the current and future Archbishops of York are equipped with resources and partnerships to lead transformative work that reaches communities of every kind, and to sustain and share the Christian Faith and its heritage across the North. There are both profound challenges and extraordinary opportunities. Communities are diverse, resilient and full of potential, yet many experience isolation, economic hardship and limited access to spaces where faith can be explored and nurtured. The leadership of the Archbishop is pastoral and prophetic: to bring people together, to offer hope and to make the Christian faith visible, relevant and accessible to all.
We play a crucial enabling role in this mission. By mobilising financial support and fostering partnerships we help create the conditions in which new, impactful initiatives can flourish. This includes supporting programmes and projects which connect communities, develop opportunities for worship, learning and service, and ensuring the Church’s presence is welcoming and outward-looking. At the heart of what we do lies the encouragement of people to the Christian Faith. We want to see a Church which is not only present, but also alive and inspirational.
Archbishop Stephen’s initiative Faith in the North is central to this: a northern response to the Church of England’s national vision and strategy, with a particular emphasis in growing a church younger and more diverse, developing missionary disciples, and planting new church communities. Many lessons relevant today can be learned universally from both our Anglo-Saxon Christian heritage and the way St Paulinus fulfilled his mission to the North of England some 1400 years ago.
Through committed prayer and fundraising with our Bishopthorpe Partners, we seek to provide resources needed to turn these ideas into action.
